pas mal d'infos pas toujours à jour dans pleins de posts... The support in Linux was, well, nonexistant of course. I'm not going to even elaborate. p.s me too with dapper flapane View Public Profile Visit flapane's homepage! http://www.espaciolinux.com/foros/tema17013.html
Actually, that driver has even more bugs than I thought. Quake3 and et will not run at all (well they do run, but the only thing you can see is the intro movie, after that it's just plain darkness, though you RV350 AP [Radeon 9600]" Monitor "SyncMaster" DefaultDepth 24 SubSection "Display" Depth 1 Modes "1280x1024" "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480" Now that it is working your frame rates dropped off accordingly (but picture probably looked a lot nicer).
I got the Radeon DDR VIVO (Now called the Radeon 7200) back in 2000/2001 when it was $250 for a new system build and when nVidia essentially kicked the tar out I do want a fairly good card at a lower price. "Hey", I said, "ATI has proprietary drivers on thier website. It is fairly easy to get at list in the Xorg.log when you force an error with an unsupported ChipID (Radeon 7500) override like Code: ChipID 0x5157 in xorg.conf (Device Section). I would like to say it was very hard, and that I'm a linux guru, but it wasn't and I'm not.
It crashes the X server when loading glx*, fglrx*, or any 3D programs... nVidia has had the upper hand in OpenGL for some time and have had very good drivers for Linux and windoze.Until recent years ATI windoze drivers were lacking as well.ATI usually I'll post those results in the event the information is useful to others... https://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33847789 Error: could not resolve matching ip-library.
The driver works with XOrg 7. If the install goes right, enteringglxinfo | grep rendershould yield:Renderer: ATI Techonologies Incorporatedinstead of the Mesa Indirect. Of course, sometime later ATI broke something in the unified drivers (Windows 2k/XP) which resulted in frequent system hangs, crashes, blue screens, et al. (This is to point out to the http://tbapplication.com/ati-driver/ati-driver-installer-8-18-8-i386.html Why is that? I can't wait to get my next paycheck, I think I've finally had enough. Quake 4 demo, UT2004 demo work fine (but a bit slow) on a 64MB 9600.
GLEW has a run-time mechanism that determines which OpenGL extensions are supported on a target platform. but I suppose if it becomes too problematic, I'll go back to 32 bit. kernel528 View Public Profile Find More Posts by kernel528 kernel528's System Specs Mar 9, 2006, 12:51 AM #20 Septor Rage3D Veteran Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Greater Toronto Area http://tbapplication.com/ati-driver/ati-driver-installer-8-23-7-i386-run.html The nVidia card is the hands-down winner when comparing the 3D quality, overall video quality, or ease of driver installation between the two.
These issues include: Attempting to install the driver on distributions that have updated certain 3D components outside of the stock XOrg 6.8.2 may result in the driver not initializing 3D applications Under the 8.21.7 release once I did the hex/binary edit to use ChipID 0x5d48 my frame rates were great: glxgears = >5900 FPS, fgl_glxgears -fbo = > 1300 FPS. However, although the installation went smoothly, my frame rates are awful.
I can't find any additional information on why its halting the system in my Xorg (6.2) logs or dmesg. I was also able to play Quake 4 in 1280x1024 resolution with no "skipping". So just as a disclaimer, please, don't read this if you feel like arguing.. And I really wish it was as simple as my xorg.conf but everything appears in order in there also.

It is very hard (and stupid) that I can't use my primary box to do the 3D development I want. The actual release notes for 8.23.7 are here. If /dev/shm fails to mount, then this feature may not be turned on in your Linux kernel. I had it working under FC3, which is why it's frustrating the hell out of me now.I know it's mostly me being Linux-stupid...
heh)This page was extremely helpful in getting the ATi driver from Livna installed... ATI will always have driver issues (period). The 3D display may also appear corrupt. And yet, as with every driver release since I've owned this damned 9500, I'm disappointed...
I appreciate it. That's what I feared, it's only broken on r200-class chips :-( (so less hope it gets fixed...). because I'm not going to. =) The story goes back to the Rage Pro chipset using the MACH driver in Linux running on my PII266. Although I am not sure which one (or more) of the above settings was causing my issue, I do find it odd that with the 8.21.7 release these were not an
