Because it's VERY easy to run out of local memory in this game (just like BF2)... I was using a headset also, but the sound would fix it self as soon as I plugged in my speakers.

Tweet Jump to... the other settings are changeable once the game starts up in the options - which I guess you don't get that far. Usually ATI does quite well in comparisons for most games but for some reason FEAR got really piss poor results.

Turns out that my onboard sound was automatically changing from "2 speaker" mode to "headset" mode, and the "headset" mode was very poor quality. Well I have the 5.11 driverset which he said would not include the fix and I did not see the fix listed for the 5.12s either. My friend finely gave up on trying to figure it out, he asumes its Vista.
