vista is very slow on this laptop in comparison with xp. have auto-upgraded from Windows and now have the same problem as everybody else here. It should open up into a new menu with a couple versions of the ATI drivers (rollbacks, current, way old, ect.) and then the IDE Controller driver that worked for me.I Is there any way to just stop the driver from trying to install (block it?) and still keep my automatic updates on? reverting instalation, i have this continuous advise of " new hardware found" and the screen of this driver instalation... What did you say here?  I have no clue what you are talking about.  As daggen said - please write in steps.

I now cannot reboot without going into repair mode and then windows update tries to install ATI 4379 serial ATA controller but fails at every attempt.
